WHERE THE FIRE HIDES

2025

This series is an exploration of emotion through movement. The body twists, folds, reaches, and retreats - tracing the shape of feelings that simmer just beneath the skin. The kind that linger, swell, and beg to be released. But what happens when emotion is fully embodied - when it is danced, stretched, held?

The work draws on the Polish folk myth of Marzanna, a symbolic figure of winter, death, and rebirth. Each spring, Marzanna is ceremonially burned or drowned in a ritual marking the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Her effigy serves as a vessel for endurance, grief, and rage.

With each shadow bathed in hue, this work becomes a ritual of release and reclamation - where emotions are not silenced or erased, but lived through and moved with.
